Art Exhibit: Carl Garrick Bettenhausen, 1980-2008
This month, Charmington’s is honored to host “Artwork by Carl Garrick Bettenhausen, 1980–2008,” an exhibit of screen prints and photography by the late artist, presented by his family. His use of energetic shapes and expressive, bold colors convey a strong sense of vitality and movement, which make his prints truly compelling.
Carl was a full-time, self-supporting artist who sold his work at many festivals and art shows in the New Orleans area. Juried Shows include: Shockoe Bottom Arts Center, Richmond, Virginia; Anderson Gallery, Richmond, Virginia; Jewish Community Center, Richmond, Virginia; Fairview Park Marriott, Falls Church, Virginia. Carl’s work is periodically on display at New Orleans GlassWorks and PrintMaking Studio, New Orleans, Louisiana, and was featured in advertising for the Touchstone Gallery in Washington, D.C.
In memory of Carl, his family continues to support the arts through the sale of his work. As his brother, Craig, states on the Facebook page dedicated to Carl’s work, “All of the proceeds […] from sales of Carl’s art go to a fund with which we purchase art from local artists. We figure that’s a pretty good tribute on the basis of how excited he was the first time he paid his rent with his art.”
In addition to the screenprints and paintings, a selection of locally made, screen-printed children’s tee shirts featuring Carl’s art are available for sale as well. Two patterns are available in 12- and 24-month sizes and a variety of colors.
For more information or to see additional works, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or (703) 622-3015. All proceeds from art and merchandise sales are used to patronize other working artists.
The exhibit runs from September 4 to October 16.
